On March 21, 1970, the Minnesota Knights of Columbus
granted to the Minnesota Knights of Columbus Councils authorization
to form Auxiliaries and charter for the Minnesota State Knights of Columbus
Ladies Auxiliary.
The basic principles set forth are:
- to unite all units of the Knights of Columbus Ladies' organizations
within the state and give them official stature.
- to assist the Knights of Columbus Councils in Minnesota in their
Spiritual, Charitable, Educational, Philanthropic and Social activities.
- to bring into closer relations all Knights of Columbus Auxiliaries
in order to join in common projects to unify their work, thus increasing
their efficiency and service by giving them united strength.
There are 31 Auxiliaries affiliated with the State with over
1100 members.
Local Auxiliaries
State Affiliation:
- The majority of local auxiliaries are affiliated with the Minnesota
State Auxiliary through a per capita assessment based on number of
members on May1st.
- The fiscal year of the auxiliary should be set up in the By-Laws,
which are drawn-up by the membership, using the State By-Laws as a
guide.
- Terms of Office and Election of Officers should also be set by
the By-Laws.Officers are installed annually, usually in May or June.
Membership in an Auxiliary:
- wives, widows and adult daughters of Knights in good standing.
- Members of the Auxiliary need not be Catholic.
- By-Laws of individual Auxiliaries govern eligibility.
- Annual dues vary, depending upon the individual auxiliary .
Meetings are held at the memberships discretion.
- Many Auxiliaries meet the same night as the Knights which seems
to encourage attendance and participation in both programs.
- Recitation of the Auxiliary Prayer, the Prayer for Vocations and
Rosary are encouraged at these meetings.
- Display of the Auxiliary banner and the American flag are also
encouraged.
- Officers should meet before the membership meeting to discuss business,
programs, problems, etc. The agenda for the membership meeting should
take place at this meeting.
- Many Auxiliaries do not meet during the summer months.
